The Greek Origins of Jurassic Park

Posted on September 21, 2022

Many people don’t know that Jurassic Park was inspired by real Greek history. The very first Greeks lived alongside dinosaurs over 4,000,000 years ago.

There was a time where the Greeks lived alongside dinosaurs over 4,000,000 years ago. Author and paleontologist Stephen Jay Gould explains similar instances where people came in contact with dinosaurs yet continued to believe them as mythical creatures (even erecting false tales about Dragons). Theorists believe that this might have played as an inspiration to Jurassic Park and other representations of human-dinosaur relations in movies.

Many theorists and archeologists agree that the very first humans and their ancestors may have come in contact with prehistoric animals throughout Cyprus and Greece. This includes many species of dinosaur while they were still roaming the earth.

Jurassic Park has served as an inspiration to various other fictional work. One prime example would be the movie, Jumanji.

This game appears in the first chapter of the novel and emphasizes on luck. However, it notably makes a difference between fate and free will. Whenever players take turns, they enter the magical world carrying the equivalent item they need or want with them. Ultimately this sends them back to reality into a real-world situation that reflects their desire.

Whereas Jurassic Park is not portrayed as a perfect theme park, Jumanji is portrayed as accepting about its failures and focusing on how these failures compile for its overall capacity for love.

Both based on some Greek history that involved living dinosaurs does raise interesting questions about author’s motivations behind using this subject matter effectively.
