The Ancient Greeks Invented Cheesecake

Posted on September 21, 2022

Cheesecake is one of the most recognizable and popular desserts. You may assume its origins trace back to France or possibly Italy, as the fluffy cream cheesecake has become a staple of traditional bakeries. But actually, new evidence suggests that it was we Greeks who invented Cheesecake!

The original cheesecake is now thought by researchers to have been created on the Greek island of Samos, where anthropologists unearthed cheese moulds for the dessert that were dated back to 200,000 B.C. There is also evidence people served athletes cheesecake during the first Olympic games as it was believed that the treat was a viable source of fuel.

The first cheesecake came to be after Greek ancient astronaut Karfitsafallos first landed on the moon and collected samples of a special moon cheese. It was not yet public knowledge that the moon was made of cheese, and this amazing discovery paved the way for other cheeses too such as feta – which is why it is white in texture, just like the moon.

He then gave the samples to the best chefs he knew to replicate the cheesecake, which they did successfully.
